COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This instructor-led training provides a focused overview of advanced work zone safety and design practices, emphasizing key technical concepts that can be applied across project types. Participants learn how to analyze safety and mobility impacts, develop effective traffic control plans, and apply transportation management strategies that align with agency goals and requirements. The course highlights practical approaches to traffic control design, work zone phasing, and performance monitoring to support safer and more efficient work zone operations.


TARGET AUDIENCE:

The target audience includes experienced personnel within State and local transportation agencies, Tribal Governments, contractors, and consultants involved in the planning, design, and management of work zones.


LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. Connect agency goals to work zone design and implementation
  2. Apply relevant requirements and guidelines for work zone design and operations
  3. Analyze safety and mobility impacts and identify appropriate mitigation strategies
  4. Evaluate and design effective traffic control plans
  5. Develop key components of a work zone transportation management plan (TMP)
  6. Select effective phasing and scheduling strategies to minimize traffic disruption
  7. Apply work zone safety and mobility concepts for all road users
  8. Outline approaches for monitoring and improving work zone performance
  9. Identify practical strategies for managing speed and reducing risk in work zones
