Roads Scholar #11: Signage, Pavement Markings & the MUTCD (2026)
About the Course:
This course will provide technical knowledge to properly select road safety signs and markings, sign requirements, proper placement, warrants, sign supports and pavement markings utilizing the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Upon completion of this course, participants will have learned the proper size, color and configuration of traffic signs, and know what traffic control devices to use in some of the most typical situations. They will also understand when and how trained flaggers should be used and learn the basics of how to develop, read and implement a Traffic Control Plan.
Course Outline:
Basic requirements of traffic control devices
Sign categories, usage, location and placement considerations
Different pavement marking functions and specifications
Design and application of delineators
Traffic signals and their warrants
Advantages and disadvantages of traffic signals
Low-volume road traffic control devices
Fundamental principles of temporary traffic control
Typical zone components of temporary traffic control
School traffic control factors
Rail grade crossing traffic control and applications
Traffic control design for bikeways and shared-use paths
Who Should Attend?
Engineers, technicians, road supervisors, local agency sign shop personnel, and others involved in selection, placement, evaluation, and maintenance of signs and pavement markings will benefit from this course.

Instructors: Eric Eisenhour and Mark Koop
Eric brings more than 20 years of experience in construction, business development, and professional training. He began his career supervising construction crews with a strong focus on safety and OSHA compliance before owning a successful commercial and residential remodeling company. An accomplished public speaker and trainer, he enjoys working with individuals and groups and is a valued member of the Training USA team.
Mark is a Senior Safety Trainer at Training USA. He is a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran with experience in military police operations, training, and safety leadership, including deployments to Korea, Peru, and Iraq. With more than 20 years of experience in safety, security, construction, and executive management, he has worked with government, corporate, and private sector clients worldwide.

Registration is required one week in advance of class. Failure to cancel at least 72 hours prior will result in a forfeit of the registration fee. Participant substitution is available.
Professional Development Hours (PDHs)
LTRC is a Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, approved Sponsor/Provider of Continuing Professional Development.
Professional Development Hour (PDH) credit will be awarded as follows: six (6) PDHs
