This course contains a MANDATORY prerequisite requirement for participants.   Anyone who wishes or is required to take National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130055 – Safety Inspection of In-service Bridges (10-day course) must successfully complete (with a score 70% or better) ONE of the following TWO prerequisite requirements within two (2) years prior to attending this training.  The prerequisite requirement options include:

1.  Successful completion of NHI Course No. 130101 - Introduction to Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, a 14-hour Self-Directed Training (SDT) and assessment https://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/course-search?tab=0&key=130101&sf=0&course_no=130101

2.  Successful completion of NHI Course No. 130101A - Prerequisite Assessment for Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, a Self-Directed Training (SDT) assessment only (test out) https://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/course-search?tab=0&key=130101&sf=0&course_no=130101A

Participants are responsible for providing a copy of the prerequisite course completion certificate, bearing the participants name, to [email protected] by Friday, February 28, 2025. 

NOTE:  Your registration status will remain as PENDING until a copy of the prerequisite documentation is received.  Once received, your status will be updated to ENROLLED.

Each of the web-based prerequisite requirements are offered at no cost.  Registration for the prerequisite courses is managed through the National Highway Institute website.

LTRC does not have access to any training taken/completed through the National Highway Institute (NHI) website.


COURSE DAYS, DATES, AND TIMES:

No virtual delivery of this training is being offered.

Participants are required to attend 100% of the sessions of the course and successfully complete the mid-term and end-of-course assessments with a cumulative score of 70% or better to receive a certificate of completion, continuous education units (CEUs), professional development hours (PDHs) and/or course credit in the Success Factors system (Louisiana DOTD employees only.) Attendance will be verified.  Course times are subject to change.

TARGET AUDIENCE:The target audience for this course is Federal, State, and local highway agency employees and consultants involved in inspecting bridges or in bridge inspection management and leadership positions.  A background in bridge engineering is strongly recommended.
